Going deep

There are 2 areas that - especially - have always fascinated me: The deep sea and the deep dark woods. You´ll find em in the scariest fairy tales or in the darkest movies. Those places seem to have something that scares us. Of course it is not possible to create a "deep sea" or a huge dark forest in this jump n run, but i can try to create the feeling with a compressed model of each of these scary locations.

  1. In deep sea locations you can use sound effect for creating scary and oppressive ambiance. I saw it in Dreamcast submarine-game: as you immersing into the depth all sounds disappear (and all around became darker) and you can hear only few noises - profound hum and your (character) breathing.
    Also, in dark places you can zoom in close to you character to create feeling of bad seeing and stress.
